The 2 November 1917 raid was a relatively small affair, British destroyers ventured into the Kattegat and sank the small auxiliary cruiser/Q-ship K/Kronprinz Wilhelm and ten fishing trawlers.

The 17 November 1917 raid turned into the 2. Battle Of the Heligoland Bight. The British forces that directly went into action were:

First Cruiser Squadron: Light battlecruisers Courageous(flag) and Glorious; screened by the destroyers Ursa, Nerissa, Urchin and Umpire

First Light Cruiser Squadron: Caledon, Galatea, Royalist and Inconstant; screened by the destroyers Vendetta and Medway.

Sixth Light Cruiser Squadron: Cardiff, Ceres, Calypso and Caradoc; screened by the destroyers Valentine, Vimiera, Vanquisher and Vehement.

The First Battlecruiser Squadron was also at sea as a support, lead by HMS Lion. But only the Repulse from this group was directly sent into the battle and engaged the enemy.
