Correction on Depth Bombs - For Johannes

<HTML>A few weeks ago I posted that the Mk 17 depth bomb had an impact fuze in the nose and a hydrostatic fuze in the side. I got this mainly from Campbell's book.

However, I just learned from a veteran of USS Bogue (Bill Glenzer) that, although the nose of the Mk 17 had a fuze cavity, aboard USS Bogue only the hydrostatic fuze was installed, and the nose cavity was fitted with only a shipping plug. Therefore, a direct hit on the surfaced u-boat would probably not directly detonate the depth bomb.</HTML>
