Otto Kretschmer Diamonds or No Diamonds

Hi Guys

Now I have a interesting question, When Kretschmer
got the swords to his knights cross with oak leaves
in Dec41 was he also recommended for the diamonds
but was it denied. He certainly deserved the medal
just for the fact that he sank more tonnage
then his closest rival by around 50,000 grt and that of
course if Luth and and about 200,000 more than Brandi.

Now I realise Luth served longer and that Brandi did
some serious overclaims but I think Kretschmer was the
only uboat captain to claim over 300,000 Grt.

Was he denied the medal due to the fact that he was
captured ?. Also a double award could happen like for
example Luth was awarded both the swords and diamonds
on his last patrol although it was a very long one
and 4 months apart. Ramke the Fallschirmjager General
in charge of the defense of Brest was awarded both
of the medals at the same time.
