Kurt Nölke commanding U-263 radioed Dönitz on 19 Jan -44 and reported that :
\" external fuel tank No 2, portside,caved in during her deep dive test \" ,
and that the boat needed immediate help.
Control rushed minecraft and a/c into Biscay to assist,
but found no sign of U-263 or its crew.
