HITLER DOEITZ and the Baltic Sea.2007 By Howard D. Grier ISBN 978-1-59114-345-1 PRICE £20:00. A very interesting and thought provoking account of the last months of WW2 in the Baltic. Showing how Doeitz not only had an vital role in the decision making for the naval vessels operations at sea but of those involing the army's planning on the land campaign that would effect his ability of maintaining the U-boat war by keeping areas open in the Baltic for the new generation U-boats (XXI) training. One fact mentioned that came as a surprise, was that throughout the war between 2,500 and 6,000 naval personnel were executed for not carrying out their duty, some a few days after the war was over.
