My Father's Service

I am trying to find some information on my father's submarine service. He was an electrician on the USS Permit during the war, and finished his service with the USS Raton and the USS Odax. He died in 1984, so I don't have him to ask. I would like to honor him and his shipmates by using their symbols on a memorial tile, but don't know where to look for that information. Thank you for any help or suggestions.
