Has anyone heard of a U-boat being spotted close inshore off the east coast of Anglesey in WW2?
A lady from a nearby village tells how her husband (then a boy) was on a cliff-top near Dulas Bay on Anglesey's east coast when he spotted a periscope. This was followed by a U-boat, which came close to the shore. Some crew members emerged and apparently made some repairs. The U-boat finally withdrew and submerged.
The youth ran home and told his father, who alerted a neighbour who radioed the local air station. Some planes went up, and a U-boat was sunk some time later, north of Liverpool.
PS
Rainer- Good to see you are still active. I never did find out the actual sub-type of my Type IX model. It seems to have a Type VII conningtower on a Type IX hull !
