Werner,
I am new also. I tried replying to your post but it did not take. Anyway, I have first hand info I think you would like to follow up on.
In 1995 I was in the town of Jeremie, Haiti. In a V shaped cove 2 Km West, there is what I think is a German Uboat. At low tide the the conning tower is about 2 feet out of the water. A good portion of the hull is buried in the sand. I snorkeled it many times, it is in about 30 feet of water. If I remember correctly, it is no more than 300 meters from shore.
Go to google maps and you can find that cove. I've tried to see if I can see the sub, but I can't. It must have been high tide when the picture was taken. I can promise you it is there! Jeremie is located on the North side of the Southern claw. There is a road that loosely follows the coast. Look 2 Km West and you will find that V shaped cove. When you drive that road and as you come to the top of the cove, you can see the waves break around the conning tower. It is a bit of a hike to the bottom, but I don't think you'll mind.
