I,ve received some very late info whilst researching my family history. 1942 14 October my fathers cousin was serving aboard the "Southern Empress" in convoy from New Orleans to Glasgow via New York Between 0032 and 0320 she was torpedoed and sunk by U-221, Captain Hans Hartwig Trojer (Kapitanleutnat).

My fathers cousin survived, he was 16 at the time and served as ships boy. He has only recently died.

Does anyone have any more info regarding this nights actions. I,ve got info on Trojer who regretably did not survive the war, but any additional info would be very welcome. Cheers.
