Dear All,
Perhaps the most important of all the events relating to the U-Boats that survived WW2 was the sinking of 116 of their number off Northern Ireland between November 1945 and February 1946 in Operation Deadlight.
Deadlight has attracted a great deal of world-wide interest over the past 65 years, and has been the subject of numerous articles and papers. However, despite this, long-dated errors still persist, even in relation to the total number of U-Boats involved.
I have therefore written what, I hope, is a clear explanation about Operation Deadlight, which has just been published as a “article†on the website uboat.net.
It explains the context of Deadlight, as well as giving its outline details, but it does not tell the stories of the sinking of each individual U-Boat. The latter are available from the records held in the PRO at Kew, and many of them are also available in other published works, albeit not yet all in a single one. That is a book that still needs to be written.
I hope that Forum readers will find my short description of Operation Deadlight accurate, interesting and helpful, and I should welcome any feedback.
Yours aye
Derek
