Why sink a 230 ton trawler?

My grandfather was skipper of the 230 ton trawler Ladylove, sunk by U202 on 27 August 1941 near Iceland. I have always wondered why U202 torpedoed a vessel so small. Was this unusual? I think Ladylove was U202's first ever hit.
