Your source is wrong...U-883 was a Type IX C-40, built at AG Weser. Bremen
She was launched on 10/2/1944 & commissioned on 11/5/44.
My source: "U-boat Ops of WWII" Vol 1 by K.Wynn
I do think that in Antonio's Post that this U-boat may be an early type U-boat.?
Probably an early Italian sub?
