Hi all!

I have question bout attack U-426 in 04.01.44.
During 04.01.44 U-629 was heavy damage by plane and need helt. After it U-426, U-539 and 2 minesweepers was sent for help U-629. At 13.00 minesweepers start escort U-629. But in 20.15 U-426 was depth charged from surface ship in U-629 area. After it U-426 pick sonar contact and launch T-5 at 20.32. 4 minutes later dull explosion followed 16 minutes later by a heavy one. No further hydrophone locations.

I think, that it was german minesweeper like target for attack. So late this day was radio messaige from BDU:
"Yesterday a boat reported from coastal waters that after depth charges had been dropped, she fired a torpedo T 5 a quarter of an hour later after getting a hydrophone bearing. Boat heard 2 explosions.
This shot could not possibly be justified, as the boat had not definitely sighted the enemy. A blind shot in an area where out own forces operate, and which our submarines run through when entering or leaving port, is strictly forbidden.
It is quite possible to be confused by bombs and the diesel noises of an attacked U-boat."

And so questions:
1 - what was german minesweepers what escort U-629?
2 - was or not this minesweppers (first or other) in repair after enter in Brest?
