U-boat weather reports - pressure readings

Weather reports rendered by U-boats included coded pressure readings. Can anyone advise as to the type of instrument used to obtain the pressure - was it an aneroid barometer (similar to that most of us have on the wall) or mercury in glass barometer?

I suspect it's almost certainly the former but would appreciate confirmation.
