This boat is listed as having an unknown number of survivors [Niestle], however in [Kemp] U-boats Destroyed, he describes the attack by the Catalina from VP-63 as catching her under water while snorkelling, Lt Lake then closed and dropped 24 Retro bombs, aircrew witnessing air bubbles, oil and wreckage, [No mention of survivors], Lake after 20 minutes then called up nearby escort, which on arrival located the wreck dead on the bottom, again no mention of survivors. He also lists 36 crew dead and a ? for survivors. The number 36 seems low for a combat crew, but in [Sharpe], U-Boat Fact File, he agrees with the attack except that she was lost with ALL 46 Crew. Is there any conclusive evidence that there were survivors? and what happened to them?, as I have not been able to find any listed rescue, as with the other U-boats lost only to aircraft. john
