U-Boats in Singapore

My friend took surrender of a U-Boat in Singapore. The tablecloth he has from it has U-64 on it. U-64 was sunk in 1940. The only 2 U-Boats I can find which surrendered in Singapore were 181 and 862, both of which had been taken over by the Japanese. My friend says the crew of 'his' U-Boat were German. Can anyone clarify this?
