Life magazine report of a ship sinking 1942

On Books Google is a online edition of Life Magazine March 30, 1942 story of a US civilian SHip that was mortally wounded Feb 23, 1942. The Story claimed the Ship sunk the Uboat.
Sorry-I believe that this was the S.S. Lihue sunk by U-161.
The Lihue did not sink U-161
