Uboats in the Pacific

<HTML>Over the years I have read an occasional reference to a Uboat base set up in Penang, Malaysia. I currently have a friend who will be living there for a few months. I ask him to try and find where this base was. He told me that no one there (that he has asked) has ever heard of such a thing. I do not specifically recall where I have read about it. Where can I find some information as to the location of this base ? </HTML>
