<HTML>Patrick,
To answer your question. I was a @#$%& member from 1997-2000 and took the Germany trip in 1998.
On the up side:
We did tour many U-boat related places. (U995,U2540,Kiel,Hamburg, U-boat Archive, U-boat Memorial and others) We also met with about 10 or 15 U-boat vets, most of them commanders. We met Hess, Bruning, Westphalen, Von Bulow, G. Heinrich, HF Massman, G. Thater, Konig (Otto K\'s crew member) and a few others. It was thorugh that trip that I got to meet and establish quite a friendship with Horst Bredow, head of the U-boat Archives. I also made several really good friends on the trip as well.
On the down side:
The trip is very, very expensive. This year\'s trip (one week in September) is $1600 US (an additional $300 if you want a single room) and that\'s without airfare...which at that time of year can be at least $600-1000.
If you wanted to visit all of those places, you could do it far, far cheaper. I know, because I\'ve done it for less than half...for several days longer since the \'98 trip.
All of the places we went on the trip, you can go on your own. And because of a recent \"falling out\" between @#$%& (head of @#$%&) and Horst Bredow, the Archive is no longer on the trip\'s itenerary...and hasn\'t been since 1998.
You are also not guaranteed which U-boat vets will be there. Some like Hess & Thater are longtime friend\'s with Mr. Cooper and tend to always make it. Unfortuantely, the year I went, Otto Kretschmer was scheduled to be there, but died just weeks before.
