<HTML>Sound location was done by 11 ( later 24 ) circular sound receivers arrainged in a semi circle on each side of the forward hydroplanes . This was called GHG or GRUPPENHORCHGERÄT -GROUP LISTENING DEVICE . Early war type 7\'s also had a rotating device on the foward deck called KDB or KRISTALLDREHBASIS GERÄT-. Very few late war type 7\'s had the BALKON GERÄT listening device added but was standard on the type XXI , this was a big bulbus device that had 24 receivers with 2 diaphrams each , it could detect sounds all around the boat except an approx 60 degree arc directly aft of the boat.</HTML>
