German U-boat Designs and Japanese Subs

Well, I finished my freshman year in college and Air Force ROTC. Now I am a Cadet Third Class! I was watching a program on the History Channel concerning germ warfare and the show mentioned the Japanese I-400 \"super\" submarines that could carry multiple aircraft. I was wondering, did the Germans and Japanese share information on submarine design at all during the war. It seems that both sides could have benefited from the discoveries of the other.
