Hello Lio

In fact thats true. Bad weather conditions and misinterpreted radios led to a fuel shortage on U-608. Due to a broken compaß the boat was 223 miles off her course on november 21st and missed her supply boat afterwards. On24th parts of her radio equipment broke down and she was unable to send regular messages. On 26th she sent a shortmessage which shows she was still floating. The next day she met U-521 in square BD 7684. Again U-608 was 30 miles off the calculated course. A supply with tubes was due to the heavy storm impossible, so 480 litres of fuel made their way in 25 l cans from U-521 to U-608. According to Bargstens war diary U-608 had just a remaining quantity of 100 litres of fuel.

Best regards
