<HTML>Hello All
There were many German Veterans who did not return to Germany. They felt that the new government turned their backs on them and ignored them. I know of several that I met on my R & R in Thialand and elsewhere that told me they had no desire to return. Pieper being one good example. He lived in France. The men that I met though were not from the U Boat Waffe but from the Waffen SS. They also told me that they were volunteers when they enlisted. Again more so for their country and the despair it was in than for the government at the time. Three were married to oriental women one had his wife from Germany join him in 1958.
Most interesting men to talk with. But again what I am saying here is that they were volunteers. Of course once you were in you did and went where told to.
