U-boat off the Maine coast on 07.02.1945?

On 07.02.1945, an alarm was given that a U-boat was located off the Maine coast. Can anyone confirm if a U-boat was really operating in the area at the time or the report was bogus?
I do not know the source of this alarm, possibly an aircraft.
