Tom,

I can't tell you where/how Luckham died, but there's a bit more information on him available via the Commonwealth War Graves Commission: [www.cwgc.org]

Key points: Major Luckham was 33 when he died, had been awarded the Mentioned in Despatches, had been seconded to East African Intelligence Corps, is listed as dying on July 4, 1943, and is listed on the East Africa Memorial. This is the description of the East Africa Memorial, per the CWGC:

THE COLUMNS IN THIS ENCLOSURE BEAR THE NAMES OF TWO THOUSAND FOUR HUNDRED MEN AND WOMEN OF MANY RACES UNITED IN SERVICE TO THE BRITISH CROWN WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN ITALIAN SOMALILAND, SOUTHERN ETHIOPIA, KENYA AND MADAGASCAR, BUT TO WHOM THE FORTUNE OF WAR DENIED A KNOWN AND HONOURED GRAVE.

Of course, it's possible that Luckham's unit assignment meant that he would end up on the East Africa Memorial regardless of where he died.

Hope this helps,
Michael
