Hello,
As far as I know, Oblt. Sitek was not CO of the U-581. By means it was Kptlt. Werner Pfeifer from 31.07.1941 to 2.02.1942.
Sitek, who swam 4 Nm to safety, was member of the staff, and later commanded U-17, U-981 and U-3005.
Regards
Freddy.
