Questions from a newbie

Hello everyone,
I'm new to the forum and wonder if any members could please answer the following questions (BTW they appertain to submarine operations in the Caribbean 1942 if that makes any difference).
What type of U-boat and British submarine would have been operational in that theatre at that time?
As far as the British were concerned, what rank would the commanding officer of the boat usually hold? How many other officers were aboard and what was the total crew number?
How were U-boats resupplied once in theatre? (This would have been before the Milk Cow was in service?)
