Hallo Scott,
U270 left Lorient on 10 August 1944 with extra persons to be evacuated from Lorient by BdU's directive from Aug.7.
See [www.uboatarchive.net] (section IV.A.2.b): "U-boats unable to obtain "Schnorchel" in Brest, Lorient or St.Nazaire, are to transfer to La Pallice. Transfer is to be used for transferring valuable U-boat nucleus crew and shipyard workers."
U270 took 30 men extra on board to evacuate to La Pallice, where they should disembark from U270.
