U-boat camouflage?

<HTML>I am currently interested in the U-boats that served in the Mediterranean. As this area is relatively tideless I have read many times that it was quite easy for an aircraft to spot a submarine unless it was submerged to quite a depth. If this is true was there any attempt to paint U-boats a disruptive camouflage to make them more difficult to see?</HTML>
