Cyanide capsules

<HTML>A friend of mine states that u-boats had a stash of cyanide capsules sufficient to give each crew member (perhaps even at the start of a patrol) which could be used for a quicker death in cases where a u-boat was headed to an implosion depth or in cases where a slow, horrible suffocation death was hours or even days away, but inevitable. I have never heard this myself but was wondering as it doesn\'t seem such a bad idea. Anybody have any thoughts or facts on the subject?</HTML>
