Good afternoon everyone,

How to begin ??. As a rabid DB fan and being totally familiar with Lt Werner's relatively smooth assimilation into the crew of U96, I began to think, What ACTUALLY happened when a Uboat crew had a journalist on board. Questions abound. How were they chosen ? Were there any psychological tests carried out? One shudders to think of what might happen if the journalist cracked during a depth charge attack. This begs another question. What did he do when for example, the boat was attacking a convoy? It must be remembered that a journalist on board a front boat in the North Atlantic was about as useful as a piano tuner. We saw Werner in uniform throughout the movie and after a while he just became another member of the crew and btw therein lies my one and only criticism of DB. I think Der Alte involves him just a tad too much in the running of the boat but I digress. Another question springs to mind. What if the journalist had a talent for, let's say, cooking, is there any possibility that the Captain might make use of him?

I realise that this is probably a candidate for daftest post award. This notwithstanding, I look forward to hearing your thoughts.</HTML>
