Good question. If I'm not mistaken, LGB also mentions the story of Rolf Mützelburg's demise (though not by name)in a swimming/diving accident. As this occurred in Sept. 1942, some artistic license must be allowed. I can only imagine that several other events in the book were added outside the context of the October '41 patrol.
