I am the daughter of W.H.Grice, and am extremely proud of his action in this very exciting episode.I assure everyone that it did take place, and any reference to it was banned by the Official Secrets Act for 30 years. The true facts came to light when Bill Catto wanted to write the history of the CLH and found that a section of the history could not be written because of the ban.The book is far better than the film , which had to put in fictional 'love 'bits to spice the whole thing up. I have a personal letter from David Niven who played the part of my father, who also thought that the film missed so many opportunities as the real unadulterated version in the book was very much better than the film version.I am still in touch with Gillem Sandys Lumsdaine whose father was the other officer in the Calcutta Light Horse on this mission.I am now 76, and was 7 at the time of the episode and in Calcutta, or at school in Darjeeling, at the time. My brother and I do get a mention, not much of one , but never the less it is there, 'The children were asleep' was all that was said about us!I now live in Australia.
