Thanks Jerry. I am German but have never come across the term Aptierung before. What is the pistol used for? Despatch of the torpedo or cause of the explosion when something is hit? Were there time from launch settings, ie to see the torpedo blow up x secs after launch? Regards Henning

Hello I am translating pages from the war diary of Robert Gysae, commander of U 98 on 13.5.41 when he sank the armed auxiliary merchant cruiser SALOPIAN. A few terms have defeated me, all from the shot report. Can anyone help? What is Aptierung of a torpedo? What is PI? What is DEZ? Salopian zigzags by 9 Dez. Degrees in German are GRAD ie so Dez is unlikely to stand for degree, and a zag of 9
