1. diesel exhaust port seal
Anyone, how were the diesel exhaust ports sealed before a dive? Was it automatic?, or was a manual valve need to be turned?

The U505 at Chicago's MSI has the Boat in pristine condidtion.....luckily it is inside, underground for last 11 of 71 yrs. There is a Wind deflector at the top ridge of the conning tower; Did that ridge have a "gap" between it and the superstructure, where the air blew over the men's heads? Or did the "slope" of the Lip of the Deflector do the job? (seems
