History HMS Penzance (Cdr. Allan John Wavish, RN) was torpedoed and sunk on 24 August 1940 in the North Atlantic, south-west of Iceland in position 56º16'N, 27º19'W by U-37. 90 men went down with the ship, there were only 7 survivors which were picked up by the British merchant Blairmore. I recently learned that my father-in-law was a survivor of the HMS Penzance in 1940. I know virtually nothing about his naval career, but I wonder if anyone has information about this vessel beyond the little I can find by searching the web. I realize that another ship was built later and given the same name, but it is the one which was torpedoed in 1940 in which I am interested. I would b
