Michael, Thank you for your good advice. I have allready tried to trace my grandfather in the National Archives but without success. My problem has been that my grandfathers name is very common, Bob William Smith. And I don't know when or where he is born. But today I've got a clue which I will follow. The submarine was quite new and part of the Royal Navy that served in the continuing war against the Bolsheviks in the Baltic Sea. Copenhagen became the Royal Navy's staging base.
