Hi all, I'm looking into the loss of HMS BLACKMOREVALE which is listed as a victim of one of U-71's mines. Does anyone have the details of the patrols she carried out under Oblt. Richard Scheurlen between the 28th Jan 1918 and 1st May 1918 and the positions of the mines she laid? Many thanks in advance!

Thanks Ron - I dropped you an email about this one recently as I noticed you had two different positions in two of your books A few dives have been done on one position and I think I have evidence that confirms it's not the POLLEON so I'm now trying to firm up evidence for other positions and possibilities - plus I need to see if I can work up some candidates for the wreck the guys

Hi all, I'm looking into the loss of the SS POLLEON which is attributed to a torpedo from UB-78. Does anyone have access to the KTB or Spindler who could let me know whether there is any location information available besides 3 miles ENE of the Tyne? Cheers, Neil

7. U 12
Hi all, I wonder whether someone can clear something up for me regarding U 12 On uboat.net she's listed as type U 9 and gasoline powered. In a number of other references I've come across her being listed as a type U 5 and also kerosene powered. I'm more inclined to trust the information on here but I wonder whether anyone is able to confirm this? Cheers, Neil

Hi all, I've just found out that my Great Grandfather was on the Harpagus when it was torpedoed by U34 on 9th May 1917. I'd love to find out more about the ship, u-boat and the incident itself. I'd be interested to hear about even the smallest piece of information as it would help me add to some family history! Cheers, Neil

And yes, I have UC 40's KTB on microfilm. I'd like to see what details exist about where mines were laid during the patrols and confirmation of whether ships credited to UC 40 during those patrols were vic

Thanks Ron - makes a lot of sense as from a complete novices point of view it seems they didn't carry many torpedoes, so makes sense to sink the vessel by other means if they've managed to capture it rather than waste a very limited weapon. Are the Starke/Schell registers available online or in book/printed form at all?

Out of interest Ron, can you tell me where you found she was scuttled? Some other sources state she was torpedoed but I'd go with your information over theirs any day! Just wondering lots of losses were simply classed as torpedoed because that was most likely rather than based on any concrete information? Cheers, Neil

Many thanks Ron! Interesting stuff How does the owner/manager bit work out? Is the manager effectively who buys and pays for the ship and then they would rent/lease her out to the shipping company? Also was there a typical way of scuttling with explosives that might be possible to tie in to any evidence on the wreck or was it just a case of slapping a load of explosives somewhere below the

Hi all, I'm trying to find out some information about the Tizona and her sinking by UC 77 besides the basic information. If you can help with any information or pointers that would be greatly appreciated, thanks! Neil
