Much appreciated. Do you know of a simple diagram that lays out the different rooms etc? I'm having to resort to silent hunter III to get an understanding of the layout!

Hello, Wondering is the only access to the upper deck up through the control room and through the conning tower. I'm guessing there are other ways into the boat as this would make resupplying difficult. Thanks!

Hello, Was a medical officer always a part of the crew of a uboat? I didn't see much mention of them on any of the sites i've been on. It seems like a doctor would be a good addition to a crew, was it a case that one of the chief/petty officers would be trained in basic medicine, or did most boats go to sea without them? As always, thanks.

Hello, Anyone know were I can find a diagram which labels the parts? The ones I've found either have limited detail, or too much with the parts labelled in German. Any help greatly appreciated!

Hello, Quick question - if one of a uboat's (VIIC) diesel engines is damaged (totally inoperable), how much does it affect speed - is it halved? slighly more than half? Another question - is the engine made up of sections? So certain sections of the engine may be damaged, yet others may still work? Any help appreciated!

Hello b34, I'm pretty new to uboat history, but a fairly well known statistic is that a total of 40,000 men served on Uboats during the war. Due to the stress of serving on a u-boat, the selection proceedure was extremely rigourous. In recognition of the cramped conditions and danger associated with serving on uboats, the crews received pay which was almost double of other branches and sp

thanks for your response - sure, from somewhere around the NE coast of Ireland (around Donegal) In a largely unrelated note - I've been reading a book on Donegal history and the author suggests that Uboats were active around donegal bay and that, more than once, they surfaced beside fishing vessels offering to buy the catch! I'm not sure if this is true, but imagine the surprise the

Hello, Can anyone hazard a guess at how long it might take a type VIIC to return from patrol from around the Irish Coast to the bases at St Nazaire or Lorient? Any takers? Thanks again

Hello, Curious if the type VIIC had a means of distilling fresh water from sea water? I read in a report of a captured uboat that the type IX had this technology on board. THanks in advance!

Hello, I'm really enjoying this site! Looking for a bit of help on two things. 1) If a uboat was preparing to attack a convoy with a single, or two escort vessels, would the captian try to sink the escort vessel first and move onto the merchant ships or attack the merchant ships and try to slip away before the escort could react? 2) What sort of damage was common from depth charge a
