The nameplate is not true plastic. per se. Don't know the exact name of it, but I do believe this technology was in existence during WWII. I've seen pictures from that period where machine parts are labelled, lockers assigned, etc. As to 'Commander Hermann Steinert', I also do not believe he is the right person who originally owned the locker. My father was in the British Navy during WWII. Some time during the war, his brother (also in the British armed forces - probably the Navy) gave him a trunk / suitcase, allegedly belonged to a crewman aboard a German U-Boat.
