I'm sorry to have to report that Franz Neumayr died last weekend at his home in the UK. He was 89 years old.

Franz Neumayr was also a crew mwmber of U-678, although luckily for him, and us, he was sent for further radio operator training before its first active patrol. Ron, which volume of Silent Warriors includes U-678?

I am also looking for photographs of U-1063 so that I might show them to a friend of mine who is a survivor of this boat. In fact, any information on U-1063 would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Steve.

A friend of mine who is a survivier of U-1063 tells me that he was taken to a castle in Plymouth. He also says that the survivors were picked up by 2 boats and that they were kept serperated from that point on.
