I think I saw the same movie. I was quite young and was terrified and got quite upset. My father, who was a WWII navy veteran response was to turn the TV off & tell me it was only a movie. I have wondered what the name of it was too?

John, Thanks for the reply. I knd of expected that Hardegen went as far as the mouth of the harbor. Still, it was a gutsy move on his part. I'm sure he could have penetrated the harbor if he had the proper charts. As I mentioned, he could have played havoc by sinking or damaging ships ala Prien if he did make it into NYC harbor.

I was hoping the forum might help me. I am fascinated the Reinhard Hardegen took his boat into NYC harbor during the early days of the US entry into WWII and Operation Drumbeat. Does anyone know if Hardegen indicates how far in the harbor he went? Also, if he made it in to say the area ar8ound the tip of Manhattan or Brooklyn Navy yard why he did not take out any targets (if he could)? The
