Hello Joern: Thank you very much for the address of Kapitanleutnant Wendlandt at 31 Schwachhauser Ring, Bremen in 1926. I went online to a map of Bremen and found such an address just close to Parkallee and near the Burgerpark. I think that this must be the one that you have sent me. I appreciate your help in obtaining this information. Phillip Aigner

Yves: No, I do not have a place of birth or death. I thought since Hans was "a merchant in Bremen" after WWI and died at a comparativley young age he most likely died there. I would certainly be curious to know. Phillip

Joe: By chance, when I first went to the site that you gave me, I did manage to pull up the color photos of the two grave stones with the dates that Hans and his wife died. On Hans' grave stone I read (in blue numbers) "Hans Wendlandt 5-6-1887 7-5-1934" I took this to mean that he died 7 May 1934 (day/month/year), not 5 Jan 1934. Am I correct? Our family history shows his

Yves: Thank you for your response. I already have a photo of Hans as a PoW. He is sitting, outside, on a bench with his legs crossed and surrounded by five of his men. There is the stone wall of a building in the background. I have seen it on a couple of websites. My photo came from the page of a French news magazine, dated 1927, that I purchased online from old-print.com limited in the U

Is there a WWII era film about submarines that includes this scenario: An allied ship is torpedoed by a German submarine at night. The U-boat surfaces and the deck crew take their stations atop the conning tower. They are soon joined by a second U-boat. The sound of voices can be heard across the water as the two captains hail one another. Cigarettes glow in the darkness. This would most

Paul: Thank you for your reply. Yes, I downloaded the English language translation of the KTB and included it, along with all the other info that I accumulated on the sinking of the Gulfamerica, in the packet that I just mailed to the woman in St, Augustine. I'm afraid she is going to be somewhat disappointed at the conclusion that I reached (that I knew was coming from the beginning) - t

I am trying to determine if there was a second U-boat present when the U-123 torpedoed the tanker SS Gulfamerica off Jacksonville Beach, Florida, USA on the night of 10 April 1942 (local time). I am doing this research on behalf of an 87-year-old woman who lives in St. Augustine, Florida, just south of Jacksonville Beach. At the age of 18 she was on the beach that night and says she witnesse

I have a distant relative who was a U-boat Commander in WWI. I am looking for information on him; his date of death and where he is buried. His name was Hans Hermann Wendlandt and he was an Oberleutnant zur Sea in the Imperial German Navy, serving in the Mediterranean. He commanded both the UC-38 and the UB-47. On 14 December 1917, while in command of the UC-38, he sank the French protecte
