Hello, I'm trying to get my hands on a copy of Rear Admiral Thomas Dykers "The Silent Service: The Searaven Story". Anyone have any suggestions about how I might track this down?

Hello Robert, I have. The photo of the man in the hospital bed is my grandfather, Flight Lieutenant Bryan Rofe, the commanding officer of the stranded airmen. I have a good knowledge of how the rescue was carried out, but I'm totally in the dark about how it was coordinated. Basically I'm trying to work out how the US Navy got involved.

In April 1942, the USS Searaven (SS196), a Sargo-class submarine, successfully rescued 33 Australian airmen from the northwest coast of Japanese-occupied Timor. The submarine was diverted from a abortive attempt to resupply Corregidor with anti-aircraft ammunition in the last days before it fell to the Japanese. Lieutenant-Commander Hiram H.
