The Hooligan Navy
Language:
This is the VHS release (see more). SummaryThis documentary tells the story of the volunteer civilian sailing force which was formed to counter U-boat attacks on the US coast in 1942. The lack of sufficient naval and Coast Guard forces left the Eastern seaboard virtually unprotected against Operation Paukenschlag. Members of an American yachting club volunteered themselves and their vessels to take on the underwater attackers. With the Coast Guard's help, they transformed their pleasure boats into warships and patrolled the coastline for the remainder of the war. |
