Scuttled at 0445hrs on 8 May, 1945 off the south-west coast of the island of Aero near Marstel, in position 54.53.5N, 10.15.7E. Wreck broken up in 1950.

Unlike many other U-boats, which during their service lost men due to accidents and various other causes, U-2538 did not suffer any casualties (we know of) until the time of her loss.
