Loss position

View the 1 war patrol

U-337 reported for the last time on 3 January 1943, sending a short weather report from approx. position 63N/12W en route to its operational area north-east of Newfoundland. The boat was ordered to operate with group Jaguar but was eventually reported missing on 24 January after it repeatedly failed to report its position.

Previously recorded fate

  • Sunk 15 Jan, 1943 southwest of Iceland, in position 57.40N, 27.10W, by depth charges from a British Fortress aircraft (Sqdn. 206/G). (Postwar assessment)
Notes. This attack was actually against U-632 inflicting no damage.

Men lost from U-boats

Unlike many other U-boats, which during their service lost men due to accidents and various other causes, U-337 did not suffer any casualties (we know of) until the time of her loss.
