The target of the attack on 20 Sept 1943 SW of Iceland in position 57.40N, 29.48W, in which a Fido homing torpedo from a British B-24 Liberator (Sqdn. 120/F) was believed to have sunk U-338, was actually U-386, which escaped unscathed. (Sources: 1992-10-01, FDS/NHB)
