U-702 left Heligoland on 30 March 1942 to operate in the Norwegian Sea, was ordered to enter Bergen on 2 April and posted as missing when it failed to arrive or report its position on 4 April. The French submarine Rubis had laid 21 mines off the northern exit of way Blau taken by U-702 en route to its operational area.
Men lost from U-boats
Unlike many other U-boats, which during their service lost men due to accidents and various other causes, U-702 did not suffer any casualties (we know of) until the time of her loss.
