Fate

Sunk on 9 February 1945 in the Baltic Sea in the Bay of Kiel, in position 54.31N, 10.18E, by an air-laid mine in the British field Forgetmenot. 48 dead (all hands lost).

Loss position

U-923 left Travemünde on 6 February 1945 for transfer passage to Kiel and was posted as missing when it failed to arrive on 9 February. The bodies of three crew members washed ashore on the Danish island of Aerø on 11 February. Its wreck was discovered during clearance work in 1952, partly raised in January 1953 and broken up.

Men lost from U-boats

Unlike many other U-boats, which during their service lost men due to accidents and various other causes, U-923 did not suffer any casualties (we know of) until the time of her loss.
